Can you be more specific? What specifically are you wanting to know?QA = Quality Assurance Methodology = Way of doing things. ------------------ Jean James, CSTE J.James Consulting, Inc. "I deliver what I promise, and I only promise what I can deliver."

Let's see if I can help a bit. First, I will begin with the fact that my own belief is there aren't really very many methodologies that are devoted specifically to QA. Even when considering ISO or CMM (which are more technically processes, and not methodologies), the entire development cycle is covered and accounted for. QA should, in my opinion, be a part of the larger development methodology, not separate from it. Methodology is a very broad topic, and one often littered with confusion based on terminology, context, and varying experiences that point to different use and implementation of process and methodology. One site you might look at is www.context-driven-testing.com. Additionally, if you could explain what sort of information you're looking for, or what you are attempting to do, perhaps we can provide more pointed help. ------------------ To affect the quality of the day; that is the highest of arts qagirl@optonline.net

I guess most of the newbies when in the "getting familiar" phase ask these questions with the intention of learning the rudiments and the Theory of the concerned topic. Well to answer the question directly (assuming that the poster wanted to know only about testing methodologies) I agree with QAGirl, there aren't many that are specific to testing as such. The site pointed by QAGirl is a good start. However presuming that the poster wants to know in-general about the rudiments of the testing arena, here are some sites to visit and ponder, Veritest -- In the testers Network section check out Testting Techniques. StickyMinds -- Check out the articles archives. Could we also point him to things like Data-Driven testing, Harness Implementation etc.? ------------------ never say die [This message has been edited by witchcrop (edited 09-06-2002).]

I think there is a lot more to QA than testing. In my view, testing is more Quality Control than Quality Assurance. Quality Assurance should make sure that an appropriate methodology is chosen and applied. Moreover QA and QC apply not only to development but also to collection of requirements, specifications, implementation, change management, operations, provision of services and so on.

Hi Venkat...Could you elaborate your question "Could any one give me various QA Methodologies". You want QA Methodologies in terms of Software or in general.Since implementing QA methodologies differ in all respects in terms of their environment. Hope u got it... Bye.. Aditya. ------------------

As everyone has already mentioned, it depends on what you are trying to accomplish. If you are introducing automated testing to your process, keep in mind the Automated Software Testing Life-cycle Methodology (ATLM), described in the book "Automated Software Testing," and summarized here in this article: Go To: http://www.stickyminds.com/sitewide.asp?ObjectId=2065&ObjectType=ART&Function=edetail It is a testing process that parallels the software development life-cycle. There is only one methodology that I am aware of titles TMM, (Test Maturity Model) that indicates it is Testing model, however after working with the TMM for several years I find it covers QA as well. The CMM and TMM is based on process/methodologies supporting early implementation within the SDLC as indentified in the V-Model. They are both requirements driven and enforce tracking and tracing requirements throughout the SDLC. This would include testing through defect reporting. They also enforce gathering standard documentation, metrics and measurements, training, tools, and management support. The TMM was developed to compliment the CMM due to the lack of software testing as part of the overall process. I have worked with both models/process and the long term results are a decrease in cost as well as defects. TMM also offers Certification for organizations based on assessment implemented by your organization or independent assessors. There are a few certified TMM QA/Software engineers as well. Information on TMM is difficult to locate but Ilene Burnstein, Illinois Institute of Technology has written a book outlining the process and maturity titles, "Practical Software Testing". It should be available on Amazon.com. I also have some information if you are interested. ------------------ Linda St Louis

I saw nobody mentioned TQM (even it's considered obsolete) and Six Sigma, which are approaches to quality, if you don't like the word methodology (which anyway is more appropiate for these than for ISO or CMM)------------------ Nobody's perfect. ... Not even me.

Hi! Folks Yes I have a question arising in regards to the same topic.More specifically what kind of methodology I should use if I am supposed to test an Antivirus Product which involves Kernel level filter drivers. It would be great if one of you suggest something. Cherio S bankar ------------------
