Hi,does anyone know about the existence of open source or freeware test suites that can compete (partly) with the suites from the major vendors? Thx ------------------

There are plently of free test tools available. It's hard to tell if they can compete with commercial offerings or if they fit your definition of a "test suite" without knowing a lot more about your specific needs. I tend to use a mixture of free and non-free tools most of the time. You might start by searching Google with "free test tool" or "open source test suite", etc. You can also search here at QAForums using similar tools. Happy hunting. ------------------ - Joe (strazzerjATaolDOTcom)

Ah, now I see. No - I don't know of any specific free/open source offerings that can do this. But, you could still do a Google search and perhaps find some. ------------------ - Joe (strazzerjATaolDOTcom)

The best information source I know about for open source / freeware test tools is provided by Danny Faught. For a modest annual subscription fee you get comprehensive coverage, practical hands-on reviews, and steady updates as the tools evolve. He can be reached at: Tejas Software Consulting http://www.tejasconsulting.com Ross ------------------

Thanks for the plug, Ross. The March issue of Open Testware Reviews will include a survey of freeware black box test management/harness tools. When I do a survey, I also make sure all the tools are listed on testingfaqs.org. You can get more information on this service at http://tejasconsulting.com/open-testware/. ------------------
