I'm sure there are others out there that are fighting the misconceptions of management regarding Automation of Regression Tests. I'm fighting a lack of resources to script these tests, execute them and maintain them for the changes in the software.
Management seems to believe that you write the test one time and that's it.
Does anyone have a GOOD article that points out how labor intensive automation can be?

Try to gather info from this site thru different forums like Winrunner/Loadrunner/functional testing/performance testing etc. There are some docs posted. You may try to give a brief write up that tells what are the pre-requisites for automated testing, what effort scale (try to explain in bulleted steps) needs to be done in preparing & executing automated test scripts, what sort of maintenance is required. May be then at least you will be able to at least show your management that automated testing is just similar to any s/w development process.

You may have to read articles that brag about the results, but in those articles, they mention ideas like maintaining the test script repository and keeping the test suite up-to-date with the latest code. http://www.imbus.de/forschung/pie24306/gui/aquis-full_paper-1.3.html
I think deep down, your management even knows it logicially. How could the tool keep up with new code automagically?
