I am trying to document the functionality of an ideal test harness. To start off with I can think of:
1. Recovery system
2. Error trapping

Will someone help me addon to this list?

(In case this is an oft repeated topic, please redirect me to the right place).

I'll add a few:

- An ideal test harness should be easy to maintain.

- An ideal test harness should provide a simple way to analyze the results

- An ideal test harness should provide a simple way to update any baseline data

Easy to add new test cases.

Easy for newbies to the company to get familiar with.

Easy to run.

Data Driven.

A few more that I could think of:

- easy to update test cases in case the UI changes

- should allow a tester to be 'selective' in choosing a set of testcases for regression

- should be internationalized

- can be adapted for testing of localized version of the software
