Would anybody know a good article or tutorial online about performance or load testing? I am lookin for really basic information, like what are (or should be) the goals for performance testing, how the results are evaluated etc. I've been searching around web and this forum, but haven't yet found anything simple and descriptive enough.

I have a methodology with increasing depth (under methodology), an article series (under publications) and several presentations(under presentations) all related to Performance Testing. I think you will find a lot of what you are looking for.

If you don't, please let me know what else would be useful to you so I can put it on my list of things to add to the site.

Two papers on performance testing that I found useful are

"Understanding Performance Testing"
A Microsoft Developer Network Article at http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/library/en-us/dnduwon/html/d5dplyover.asp

and a more recent MS article (July 2002) on
"Capacity Model for Internet Transactions" http://www.microsoft.com/technet/treeview/default.asp?url=/technet/prodtechnol/comm/comm2002/plan/capmodit.asp

Althought they both have an MS slant they contain the essentials.
