We need a tool that would test both our client/server application as well as the web application. Does any body know of any integrated ntegrated client/server and Web load testing tool . I have only come across Mercury's loadrunner. But the pricing is really absurd. I would really appreciate if someone can help ...Thanks Sangeeta

All of the major vendors in the automated testing arena provide the tools that test both Client/Server (SQL-based communications) and web-based applications. These include Mercury, Rational, Segue and Compuware. They all are licensed and sold based upon the number of VU's, as well as communication protocols. They are all going to put a significant "hit" in the wallet. So, you'll have to perform an evaluation of each of these products to determine if they fit your needs, both economically and functionally. Another cost effective solution might involve the rental of the software, by the number of VU's and by communication protocols. This obviously depends upon your testing cycle and how often you actually test these products. But rather than buying the tool outright you can just rent it for the period of time that you want to perform the testing. Some of the vendors, such as Rational, provide this sort of paradigm for implementing their software.------------------ m_adcock [This message has been edited by m_adcock (edited 04-21-2002).]

But the Empirix tools don't test client/server apps, do they? ------------------ - Joe (strazzerj@aol.com)

I have recently made a load test tool presentation available through the downloads section. You may find it useful.

Hey Paul ,Thank you so much for the document. It is a very informative document, a "must read" for anyone evaluating web performance tools. Can you please tell me whether any of the tools that you evaluated would load test both the client/server as well as a web application , a two in one tool ? Thanks. Sangeeta
